Le stage de Recherche ouvre les laboratoires de recherche fondamentale, biomédicale, ou appliquée (industrie pharmaceutique, biotechnologie) aux élèves tentés par un approfondissement en Sciences de la vie, que ce soit en microbiologie, en virologie, en immunologie, en neurobiologie, en embryologie, en biologie structurale, en biologie moléculaire, en biologie cellulaire, en bioinformatique, en écologie...

L'élève pourra, avec les conseils du coordinateur et de l’équipe enseignante, dessiner les contours thématiques de son stage, puis participer activement, grâce à la visite de laboratoires, à la définition ultime de son sujet de stage de Recherche.
Le stage de recherche scientifique en Biologie consiste en un travail de 16 semaines minimum en laboratoire. Ce stage peut avoir lieu dans un laboratoire du milieu académique ou dans un laboratoire d’entreprise. Les stages se déroulent en Province, à Paris ou en région Parisienne (CNRS, INSERM, Institut Pasteur, Institut Curie, INRA, CEA, Universités, ...) et à l'Etranger (Etats-Unis, Allemagne, Canada, Italie, Espagne, Japon, Portgal etc...)
En Sciences de la Vie, la recherche fait largement appel à la Physique, à la Chimie, aux Mathématiques Appliquées et à l'Informatique. Par conséquent, grâce à sa formation généraliste, même s'il n'a suivi qu'un seul des modules offerts par le département de Biologie en année 2, un élève sera apte à profiter d'un stage de Recherche en Biologie ou en Ecologie.

- Rapport Final : 
Nous aurons besoin d’une version électronique (au format pdf uniquement) de votre microthèse (trente pages maximum tout compris) à transmettre par email. 
Les rapports peuvent être rendus en français ou en anglais, comme vous préférez. 
Vous ferez en sorte que ces documents  parviennent à Catherine MORAIS catherine.morais@polytechnique.edu, aux membres du jury, à l’enseignant référent de votre stage IMPERATIVEMENT cinq jours minimum avant votre soutenance.
Cela ne pose aucun problème si l’un ou l’autre des documents transmis à l’X est rédigé en Anglais (rapport final et fiche d’évaluation transmise par votre directeur de stage). 
A part la limite de 30 pages, annexes incluses,  nous n’avons pas d’exigences particulières. Il s’agit d’un rapport scientifique classique, et votre laboratoire d’accueil vous conseillera utilement à ce sujet. En bref, le rapport doit introduire le sujet en le situant dans son contexte, page de garde du rapport voir règlement du bureau SOIE,  le résumé en français et en anglais (OBLIGATOIRE), puis développer les résultats obtenus, et enfin les discuter.
Les références bibliographiques doivent également être indiquées suivant les normes courantes des articles de recherche.
Les matériels et méthodes utilisés doivent en outre être décrits.
Nous vous rappelons que le respect des échéances sera pris en compte dans la notation.

- Soutenance : La soutenance orale doit s’effectuer en présentiel à l’École polytechnique (soutenance en français ou en anglais). 
L’organisation de la soutenance est gérée par le département (durée, jury, public,  ...) est gérée par le département.  

 - Invitation directeur de stage : 
Votre directeur de stage sera invité à participer à la soutenance. Sa présence à la soutenance n’est toutefois pas obligatoire.  Votre directeur de stage devra IMPERATIVEMENT  nous adresser son appréciation  sur le travail réalisé et la manière dont il a été conduit, en remplissant la fiche d’évaluation transmis par le Département.  Cette appréciation devra être adressée  IMPERATIVEMENT deux jours avant la soutenance, par e-mail à : catherine.morais@polytechnique.edu

Stages en cotutelle :
Pour les élèves s'engageant en quatrième année dans une filière ingénieur en double diplôme, le sujet, le lieu du stage, les modalités du suivi intermédiaire et le jury de soutenance sont, dans certains cas, définis en commun par les responsables du stage de recherche de l'X et par les enseignants de la formation complémentaire diplômante.
Les stages en cotutelle permettent à l'élève de mettre en oeuvre, dans un cadre réel, une démarche scientifique expérimentale ou théorique, tout en découvrant un des secteurs couverts par la formation complémentaire.

The student will be able, with the advice of the coordinator and the teaching team, to draw the thematic outlines of their internship, then actively participate, thanks to laboratory visits, in the ultimate definition of their Research internship subject.
The scientific research internship in Biology consists of a minimum of 16 weeks of work in the laboratory. This internship can take place in an academic laboratory or in a company laboratory. Internships take place in the Province, in Paris or in the Paris region (CNRS, INSERM, Institut Pasteur, Institut Curie, INRA, CEA, Universities, etc.) and abroad (United States, Germany, Canada, Italy, Spain, Japan, Portugal etc...)
In Life Sciences, research largely draws on Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. Consequently, thanks to their general training, even if they have only followed one of the modules offered by the Biology department in year 2, a student will be able to benefit from a Research internship in Biology or Ecology.

- Final report :
We will need an electronic version (in PDF format only) of your microthesis (maximum thirty pages all inclusive) to send by email.
Reports can be delivered in French or English, as you prefer.
You will ensure that these documents reach Catherine MORAIS catherine.morais@polytechnique.edu, the members of the jury, the reference teacher for your internship IMPERATIVELY five days minimum before your defense. This poses no problem if one or other of the documents sent to X is written in English (final report and evaluation sheet sent by your internship director). Apart from the limit of 30 pages, annexes included, we have no particular requirements. This is a classic scientific report, and your host laboratory will provide you with useful advice on this subject. In short, the report must introduce the subject by placing it in its context, cover page of the report see regulations of the SOIE office, the summary in French and English (MANDATORY), then develop the results obtained, and finally discuss them. Bibliographic references must also be indicated following current standards for research articles.
The materials and methods used must also be described.
We remind you that compliance with deadlines will be taken into account in the rating.

- Internship director invitation:
Your internship director will be invited to participate in the defense. However, his presence at the defense is not obligatory. Your internship director must IMPERATIVELY send us his/her assessment of the work carried out and the way in which it was carried out, by completing the evaluation form sent by the Department. Joint internships:
For students entering a double degree engineering course in the fourth year, the subject, the location of the internship, the terms of the intermediate follow-up and the defense jury are, in certain cases, defined jointly by those responsible for the internship. research of l'X and by teachers of additional diploma training. Joint internships allow the student to implement, in a real setting, an experimental or theoretical scientific approach, while discovering one of the sectors covered by the additional training.
