Moving picture story(s)

Are you one of the many French people who have seen the German film “Das Leben der Anderen”? If you liked this film about Staatssicherheit, an important chapter in the history of the GDR, then you've come to the right place in this module.
We'll be looking at the links between history and cinema. On the one hand, we'll look at how different chapters of German history are portrayed in film. On the other hand, we'll look at what kind of films have been produced by the different eras of German history. What does German cinema have to say about the Second Empire? How is the creativity of the Weimar Republic expressed in film? How is Nazism dealt with in film? Is there a cinema of the Berlin Republic? These are just some of the many questions we'll be tackling together.
