PHY586 - Technology of nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel cycles
This EA presents some scientific aspects of the technology of nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel cycles from the uranium mine to the radioactive waste management.
The lesson part presents the state of the art and current research on materials for the nuclear and the fuel cycle. It is completed on the one hand, with a digital TD on material simulation and reactor simulator, and on the other with conferences by the main nuclear actors (EDF, Orano, Framatome, Andra, …) who bring an industrial perspective and a view of the current nuclear situation in the world, and sensibilize to the social issues associated.
This EA is complementary to the PHY558 course, "Nuclear reactors physics", which is useful but not mandatory to have taken.
