Course taught in English.

The course aims to provide students with insight on the economic causes of environmental issues as well as possible policy solutions to these issues. It will help students develop the tools to analyse the role of government in the regulation of the environment. The course will apply both the theory and applied tools of environmental economics to cover a wide range of issues such as comparison of economic instruments, the impact of trade on the environment and the formation of international environmental agreements. 

More precisely, the course will cover the following topics:

1.      Environmental economics: background

2.      Welfare economics and the environment

3.      Market failure, Public goods, externalities

4.      Global versus local pollution

5.      Pollution control: targets and instruments

6.      Pollution policy with imperfect information

7.      Growth, GDP and the environment

8.      Trade and the environment

9.      International environmental problems

10.  Behavioural economics and the environment
