The course "Algebra and geometry" splits into two parts. In the first part, we propose a geometric point of view on the differential calculus studied in the first semester. This includes an introduction to manifolds and a qualitative study of differential equations on manifolds.

In the second part, we focus on specific groups of linear transformations arising from geometry and theoretical physics. We give in particular a very detailed description of their structures and links between them.

In MAA307 “Signal and Systems”, we will consider discrete signals such as digital images and digital sounds. We will first study how sampling allows to go from the continuous world we live in to the discrete world of the computers. We will then talk about linear filters which are used for instance to clean audio recordings or images. We will continue with an introduction random signal and its application to produce some audio effects. This course will finish with a tour of information theory and coding using the JPEG image standard as an example
