The aim of this internship is to scientifically study a management phenomenon. It involves combining the discovery of the company with learning research in Social Science.
Interns choose a research subject of interest and to which they have access through their internship. They formulate a research problematic. Many topics are possible, such as: organizational phenomenon (formation of a team, decision-making, risk management), management problem (period of a project, faults, gaps between prescribed and actual work), management processes (recruitment, remuneration, technology or investment choice, distribution or price policy, services ou functions relations), the development of a new production method (Kanban, SAP, lean management), the implementation of a control tool (performance indicator, evaluation systems), or marketing processes...
Interns will learn to emerge from emergency and daily activity restraints to create a scientific method distanced of their subject. They will also learn to read scientific articles and to mobilize them skillfully to analyse its case.
Research generally includes several steps: a description phase (actors, situations, contexts), methodological development (interviews, document or archive analysis, observation, etc.), production of an analysis based on a rigorous demonstration and an explicited theorical framework. A scientific bibliography is required, as well as a reflection on the method used to build the results. The clarity of the written demonstration and oral presentation is also assessed. This initiation to research in social science aims to develop skills of distancing et intellectual approach specific to research. It must enable to go beyond a purely descriptive and subjective perspective and lead to building new knowledge regarding a organizational or managerial phenomenon.
This research approach can rely on methodologies developed for many years by the Centre de Recherche en Gestion (CRG) of the Ecole, and the ones carried out by other social sciences (sociology, history, economics, research during internship).
The research fields can be private companies, public, international or associative organizations. In any case, this internship can only be considerate as a pre-recruitment: during the internship, a period of research training is to be expected to research.
A two-day initiation to methodology of research in social science is organized before and during the internship. Furthermore, interns benefit from a personalized support (tutorat) to help them build their theorical framework, their method and organize the presentation of their results.
In order to benefit of this course, it is recommanded to have taken courses and seminars on business issues (enconomics, management, law).
