Today's novelists
Contemporary litterature continues the tradition of the precedent centuries and nothing prevents us observing the literary production of the 21st century as a living part of our culture.
Thus, this course offers an overview at today's French novelists to understand how their novels are part of an history of litterature and how they renew it. We will ask ourselves, through some major of contemporary, what is new in this literary genre and what novelists can teach us about the world of today, and even tomorrow. Beyond the entertainment provided by novels, we will consider this genre as a matter to think on the world and humanity but also as a way to act, participate to the common life, with its social, political, economical, scientific, religious, moral or environmental issues.
This course will be assessed by a four-hour essay. Knowledge of the course is mandatory: personal knowledge is no substitute to attending classes.
Evaluation modalities: Written exam (4h)
Are allowed personal notes (handwritten or printed) and paper verion language dictionary, except for other printed or handout documents and dictionaries and electronic translators. Are forbidden tablets and smartphones.
