Contemporary kinds of music (including jazz, and rock) are a complex socio-musical phenomenon that deserves to be studied not only for their own sake but also as an indicator of socio-cultural mutations that have contributed to our understanding of societies since the beginning of the 20th century.
Whether discovery or exploration, work during the seminar will be above all concrete and practical, based on dialogue and participation. The emphasis will be on listening to and viewing extracts with commentary, which analysis will be recontextualized.
