Psychoanalysis is at once directly concerned with life's troubles (from the banality of some to the severity of others), a theory of the psychic apparatus and a perspective on human life.
The seminar, cannot ignore the fact that it is currently the subject of some criticism, whether from the cognitive sciences (and their applications under the heading of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) or from American "Gender Studies". It also encounters the effects of technology, particularly in the field of medically-assisted procreation.
The seminar will aim to address both the clinical question ( can the pain of existing be treated?) and the theoretical question (What kind of doctrine, or even science, can be applied to our subjective elaborations? Is mental life reducible to our thought operations?) Reconstructing psychoanalytic conceptuality from its invention (Freudian hysteria), we will confront the practice and its tools in our current situation (why undertake to do psychoanalysis? What can we learn from psychoanalysis today?).
Students are encouraged to participate actively. The use of computers, tablets and smartphones is not permitted during the course. Texts and case studies have to be read before each session to facilitate exchanges and presentations.
