Seminar "Economy thematics" (Arthur Jatteau)
The first one tackles the question of inequalities, which occupies an important place in contemporary economics, notably with the work of Thomas Piketty and his team. Inequalities raise a number of questions, to which this seminar will attempt to provide some answers.
How are they defined? How can they be measured? What have been the major historical tendencies of inequalities? What is the situation today? What means are available to reduce them? To answer these questions, we will draw on works from economic literature and, more generally, from the social sciences (sociology and history in particular).
The second one wishes to develop a series of more original questionings, focusing on "economic utopias", that is to say, ideas, projects and policies that aim to make a radical break with the economic and social world as it functions today. The economic utopias that will be studied are about diverse fields, such as the working world, social welfare or even income distribution. In all cases, the aim is to address the question from an economic and social angle, discussing the real possibilities of such utopias, both in terms of financing and the way the economy works.
