The energy transition will require an intensive use of renewable electricity in industry, household and transportations. To comply with this objective, it is necessary to develop efficient, versatile, and economic power storage media. The chemical storage is particularly well suited to reach the goal, either via batteries and fuel cells, or via the conversion of power to synthetic gaseous or liquid fuels. The SPOC presents the fundamentals and technology of power storage and conversion by chemical means.The SPOC is intended to give a non-specialized audience the basic knowledge required to understand the principles and the main technological and economical challenges of reversible power storage. After a global overview of the storage sector, the focus is set on electrochemical storage.After seeing the SPOC, the trainees will:
- get an overview of the various modes of power storage;
- have the basics to deepen their understanding of the electrochemical conversion;
- be aware of the technological challenges that need to be overcome, and associated investments required;
- be able to apprehend the complexity of the world of storage and the related techno-economic challenges.
