After the study of electromagnetism in the void in preparatory classes, this 10-course module offers the study of Maxwell's equations in the material field that surrounds us, such as dielectrics, conductors and magnetic field. The course also includes a study of the interaction between matter and radiation, using a range of very general models.
This study enables us to understand the macroscopic properties of media (refractive index, magnetization, conductivity...) based on the microscopic properties of matter. The course also looks at radiation sources (accelerated charged particles or radiating dipoles) and the propagation in void (demonstration of diffraction, near field...) or in guides of the fields produced by these sources.
Finally, this course introduces the propagation of light pulses in dispersive fields, as well as non-linear optics, two regimes made accessible thanks to the development of lasers.
