This course starts with the idea that an engineer should be able to invent and develop machines, in addition of their capacity to calculate and think scientifically. The objective here is to give students the opportunity to combine scientific knowledges with a creative process, in order to solve engineering problems through innovative design. At each step of this course, the goal will be to achieve to a product that really work, to manufacture it and optimizing its efficiency.

The developed approach here is an engineering approach; it is therefore complementary to the scientific courses as it offers aapplication field of science to create a concrete technological object. This framework could be of use for all engineer students and particularly to those wishing to have an impact on their environment through the innovation and high technologies, entrepeneurship, research, or the creative resolution of problems.

Each session will include a team project in which solving problems with an increasing difficulty. The final projects will be on several weeks and will require the implementation of all learnt concepts, including a creative invention work with mechanical and electronical implementation, to produce a machine fulfilling a specific function.

Project examples of previous years: manufacture of a stopwatch, scale, or a music instrument, all based on the contents of an inkjet printer.

Evaluation modalities: Evaluation on projects presented in groups
Course language: English
