Thinking and Representing nature (C1-C2)
How do we think about nature today? Health crisis, global warming, deforestation and giant fires, disappearance of animal and plant species..., “nature” seems to be at the center of contemporary debates, issues and projects. But what does the idea of nature really mean? Based on historical, philosophical, artistic and literary questions, the course aims to reflect on representations of nature and how they have evolved over time, in order to help us rethink nature and what is at stake for humanity today.
To this end, the course will draw on extracts from literary, cinematographic and artistic works, as well as various documents from the French and French-speaking media (press articles, videos, etc.). It will feature a wide range of debates based on the interests of the students in the group, and will also provide an opportunity to work on written French. The course will include a visit to a garden or museum.
