In this course, we will explore different types of mass media  as well as the theories of mass communication. This course will give you the opportunity to develop a wider understanding of the role media plays in our lives, while building your vocabulary and giving you the skills needed to analyze what you read and watch. We will also examine the effect and the impact of mass media on contemporary life and society.

  • Journalism Ethics
  • Advertising
  • Conspiracy Theories
  • Meme Culture
  • Satirical News
  • TV broadcast
  • Podcast

 

Tasks:

  • During each session, you will be expected to have read up on what has been going on worldwide (international/national news) as we will open the session with a news debrief (as it happens in the newsroom) followed by a discussion.
  • You will do a group presentation/mini project after each class based on the topic that we would have been working on.
  • At the end of the course, you will have to hand-in an essay/group-project.
