German art (chronological approach)
This course introduces you to the various artistic movements that have marked German and European art history. You will discover emblematic works of art in painting, but also in architecture, music, literature and, from the 20th century onwards, design, photography and film. The context of the emergence of these movements and their historical impact will be studied through a variety of visual, textual and audio media. As in any language course, there is a strong emphasis on oral expression and comprehension through group discussions, role-playing and presentations.
This course will familiarize you with the vocabulary and techniques of painting analysis, but will also give pride of place to subjectivity, through the expression of emotions aroused by works of art.
A trip to Paris to see an exhibition related to the works studied is also planned each year.
