Target
Intermediate 1 courses are aimed at students who have acquired some basic grammar and vocabulary during their previous schooling (lycées, preparatory classes, foreign universities) but who still have major difficulties with expression and comprehension.
Objectives
The main objective of the courses in periods 1 and 2 is to (re)give students a taste for language and expression, particularly oral expression.
The Intermediate 1 classes will firstly reactivate and reinforce the basic knowledge of the students according to the skills they have acquired in the past. Students will be asked to produce narratives and talk about events that took place in the past, give descriptions, lead discussions and give their opinions. They will practise understanding the main lines of audio and video recordings with several speakers and identifying the key words in a dialogue in order to reconstruct the main ideas. They will be able to read texts from the non-specialised press or simple literary texts and answer targeted questions. In terms of written expression, this level requires students to write pragmatic texts such as letters, e-mails, invitations, CVs and covering letters, as well as essays. Students will learn to express their opinions on specific subjects covered in class.
