The BME Design Project aims to put knowledge into practice. Student groups work on an open-ended biomedical engineering design problem, guided by one or more BME faculty, industrial sponsors, and/or clinicians.
The class teaches how to apply engineering knowledge to a real-world problem through the implementation of a sound design strategy involving the following steps:
- Understanding the problem
- Defining the needs and objectives
- Identifying possible design strategies and methodologies for attaining the objectives
- Analyzing the technical and practical feasibility of the identified strategies
- Selecting the optimal design strategy
- Implementing the final design strategy
- Presenting the results
The character of the projects is highly variable, from theoretical studies to laboratory experiments.
