Description :
Through the study of works of various forms, genres and periods, this course invites students to analyze the different ways in which French writers and artists have represented themselves over the centuries. Today, particularly with the omnipresence of social networks, writing and pictorial self-representation are finding a second youth and new means of expression. As a result, we need to revisit some of the great works of the past, and ask whether there is any continuity in the methods, doubts and questions that guided their authors in constructing their own image for posterity. In this course, students will not only analyze and discuss documents in a variety of media (paintings, poems, photographs, literary excerpts, etc.), but also reflect in writing on how they themselves have constructed, are constructing or could construct their own image.
