This course intends to recap basic notions in inorganic and organic chemistry.

In organic chemistry we will survey some aspects of carbonyl and aromatic chemistry, strategies for protecting/deprotecting functional groups, and basic reduction and oxidation reactions.

We will then address issues in inorganic and organometallic chemistry with the perspective of understanding spectra features and reactivity.

Finally, we will examine the concept of symmetry, which is a very important notion in chemical science. It greatly simplifies the study of spectroscopy and theory of materials and molecules, and we will give a short overview of the important notions and applications in building simple molecular orbital diagrams, as well as in IR and Raman spectra.
