Quantum Information: Entanglement, control and platforms for quantum technologies

The Quantum Information course (PHY580) presents the foundations of the second quantum revolution. It provides an understanding of how the notions of quantum entanglement, superposition, and qubits pave the way to the realization of tasks simply unimaginable with classical architectures. The course covers the four pillars of quantum technologies (communications, simulation, computation, metrology), from foundations to concrete realizations from quantum optics to superconducting circuits.

Topics covered :

  • Introduction to quantum technologies: Where are we now and where are we going?
  • Entanglement; Notion of qubit and logic gates; Decoherence
  • Quantum communications
  • Quantum computing
  • Quantum simulation
  • Quantum sensors and metrology

Level required : PHY430 - Advanced Quantum Physics (and PHY433 - Statistical Physics desirable)

Course language : English (unless all students are French-speaking)

Person in charge : Laurent Sanchez-Palencia
