This course aims to strengthen fundamental concepts in chemistry to provide a strong basis for the follow up courses of the Chemistry minor. The atomic structure, notion of orbitals, concepts covered in physics related to the particle-wave duality of elementary particles in quantum mechanics, bonding within molecules, and intermolecular interactions will be discussed, exploring the molecular reactivity but also the implications to the properties at the macroscale and materials science. Spectroscopic methods will be revised, conceptually and experimentally, including the construction of a spectrometer and a short analytical chemistry lab.
