Prerequisites: MAA203, MAA204

This class examines Markov chains, Poisson processes, renewal processes and pure Markov chains. Starting with the theoretical aspects of process analysis, our lectures will then cover further applications and discuss modeling for issues appearing across various fields.




MAA 305 focuses on general group theory, ring theory and field theory.
The first course objective is to describe group actions and geometric applications, as well as the notion of Sylow subgroups. The second part of the course develops general commutative ring theory, looking specifically at applications for the arithmetic of integers. The last aim of the course is to introduce students to the theory of field extensions, and the Galois theory of algebraic equations.
